Sciatica Treatment in Grand Rapids, MI

If you’re experiencing a “tooth ache” type pain going going from the low back area into your hips and down the leg, you most likely are suffering from sciatic nerve pain.  It’s awful, and can be a mild annoyance at best and be completely debilitating at worst.

We’ve been getting outstanding results when it comes to helping people like you heal naturally from this type of pain, without using any drugs, injections or worse, surgery.  At our Grand Rapids clinic, located in Comstock Park in Michigan, we are able to help most people that come in with this condition, because we obsess over finding the true cause…not just masking the symptom temporarily.

Causes of Sciatica

  • Herniated or Bulging Discs
  • Spinal Misalignments or Subluxations
  • Piriformis Syndrome (Muscle compression of the sciatic nerve in the glutes)
  • Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
  • Spinal Stenosis (Narrowing of the spinal canal)
  • Pregnancy related pressure on the lower spine

Symptoms to watch out for:

  • Tooth-ache like pain that shoots into the hip area and down the leg (will feel like electric shock potentially).
  • Numbness and tingling and loss of sensation.
  • Weakness in your legs
  • Pain gets worse when sitting or standing still for long periods of time.
  • Difficulty walking normally or standing up from sitting position.

Your spine is meant to be straight when observed from the front or back, and curved only from the side view, with the head and neck stacked above the shoulders.  Several studies show that being stuck in an abnormal, forward-flexed position has serious neurological consequences and can lead to several disorders and symptoms, including sciatica. 1, 2, 3

In between each spinal joint is a disc allowing space for the nerve roots to exit. Any one of these tissues and structures can be responsible for generating the acute pain or chronic issues you’re experiencing. The critical first step in fixing sciatica pain is to properly diagnose the source of the pain.

One of the most important things you can do to find the cause of your sciatic nerve pain is to get examined by a qualified doctor of Chiropractic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a chiropractor in Grand Rapids, MI good for sciatic pain?
Absolutely! Chiropractic should be your first call when it comes to sciatic pain. This will very likely result in the avoidance of dangerous pain killers including opioids, and more importantly will help you get back to living your life pain free by correcting the cause…not just masking the symptom.

When should you see a chiropractor for Sciatica pain?
As quickly as possible, ideally!  By the time you are experiencing sciatic pain, the problem has usually already existed for some time, unless it was due to a sudden injury like a car accident.  Either way, it is essential to address the problem before it becomes a more severe issue later on.

Are chiropractors covered by insurance for sciatic nerve pain?
Generally, yes, but not everybody has a plan that includes these benefits. We do currently accept Blue Cross, and Medicare if you are over the age of 65. For most other insurances, we recommend using our cash discounts, which still allow you to self-submit to your insurance if you choose, and offer an out-of-pocket price very similar to using insurance.  Most important thing is to regain control of your pain before it become a more serious and permanent issue.  Don’t let insurance stop you from seeking proper care!

Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
No, they should not hurt! There is so much relief ahead for those that utilize chiropractic, SoftWave and spinal decompression therapies. We pride ourselves on our results and the gentle nature of all treatments.
